Reading a letter of mine written from the Pacific in WWII, I am interested in piecing together what life was like on a daily basis. From the letter I gathered beach, outdoor movies and sleep.
Anyone have any idea or stories?

Hi Luther The following is an extract from my father's diary (Chic Elsmore) which has been mentioned elsewhere on here - spelling etc as is. I chose this day as it mentions Cpl Hyde. "28th Tuesday (Nov. 1944) Had a good sleep in until nine & then got woke up to put out a tent Ces & Jack went down it was the yanky oil boiler for their washer they put it out with a C02. Chimney blew off, & just missed Ces spent the rest of the morning in YMCA reading papers, had early lunch & went down to swimming pool at twelve & stayed there all afternoon, had some dives off bridge & hit bottom tore my arm on the coral very sore came back by jeep & truck, & had shower & then tea took my pay book to 10 SU so as I can draw $10 to get presents for Xmas came back & heard Cpl Hyde had had his arm taken off by prop of Corsair, he was in a bad way also one of our kites shot up pretty badly over Kavaing they have been shooting hell out of it since we came here also Rabaul. Boys made cup of tea & how good it was, after that we went to the pictures came back & had supper tea & apricots." As you can see not too different from what's mentioned in your letter.
Cheers Anne

Thanks for that, I enjoyed reading it,except for the arm part..ouch! It's very much like the letter I have..Seems like they had a lot of time on their hands, ralaxed one minute, next minute your buzzing around the skies with your life on the line.
