Actually had the black B77W, A320, and B190 all waiting in a row a week or two ago, but didn't have my camera at hand!!

the Koru looks more natural on the Beech than the Airbus. Wonder why they didn't do an ATR.

Is th whole flee of Air New Zealand planes going to end up black like these eventually? Or will it be a strange mish mash of schemes, much like there uniforms nowadys where it seems an number of colours is the thing.

Not cheap painting an aircraft Dave, esp if you have to paint strip it first, downtime as well.

Yes. But I thought maybe as and when repaints are due and when new planes are bought they might go black. Just wondering.

Would be nice but I think there is some technical things with regard painting commercial aircraft black. Someone else will help.

My mate at Air NZ said that the 777 All Black paint job was the most difficult that Boeing had ever done, and that they weren't at all keen to do it ... I don't think its the black, more the complexity of the design. I gather these are only 'flagship' paint jobs, not fleet-wide.

Interesting that the Airbus has black engines, yet the 777 and 1900's have the light grey. Looks way better in black! Someone said engine cowls weren't black because leaks etc weren't able to be easily seen. Airbus engines not leak? Would have been perfect to cover sooting on 1900 cowls! Attachments:

When I asked that question the answer was the cowls are inter changed between aircraft at Maintenance time so white aircraft would look funny with black engine cowls? Lets keep an eye out for an odd looking A320? Cheers
