Kiwi soldier dies in AfghanistanA New Zealand soldier has reportedly died in Afghanistan today of non-combat injuries. The soldier, who was a member of the Provincial Reconstruction Team in Banyan, was injured in an incident at Forward Patrol Base Romero at approximately 11am New Zealand time. He later died in hospital. No information about the soldier's identity has been released. Chief of Defence Force Lieutenant General Rhys Jones said in a statement, "We are saddened by this loss and, on behalf of the entire New Zealand Defence Force, I extend my deepest sympathies to the family, colleagues and friends of the soldier." Next of kin are in the process of being informed. "An investigation into the circumstances of the incident is under way," Lieutenant General Jones said.
