Oh no thats bad news alright. Didn't he check out Keith Skilling onto the Corsair? Reading in Gavin Conroy's book that Howard didn't like airline pilots. Changed his opinion of Keith when Keith did a low pass over the top of Howard standing watching Keith fly! Howard will be a big loss to the warbird community.

What a sad loss to aviation... pilot and aircraft... I was at Oshkosh in 1999 when Howard and his Bearcat narrowly missed being rammed from behind by a Corsair (which subsequently rolled over and crashed in flames - pilot was badly injured but survived) . Flying warbirds isn't all fun and games, I guess. I'd still do it if I had the means though... Howard was a legend and going out flying is probably better than any other way...
