Did transport crews who flew over hostile territory and dropped cargo or troops by parachute or who landed behind the lines and unloaded goods for partisans, etc (as happened in Europe, the Balkans, Burma, etc) get to count such missions as an operational mission or "Op", like a bomber or fighter crew would?

Good question Dave. I checked with Phil Small who was a dispatcher in 148 and 624 Squadrons flying from Brindisi. He recalls it was hours not ops and 250 hours meant a break. He served from early 44 till after VE day on these squadrons. Doug Mc Donald was a B/A with 298 Sq on Glider tows and SOE ops .He seemed to also have breaks at certain times based on hours flown as he certainly did many more than 30 ops. He also served 1944 till after VE day. The trouble with the SOE squadrons , logbook details are not very specfic . More in Wednesday Bomber Boys.
