Our SF wear it, I doubt we have the money to replace DPM amd DDPM across the entire NZDF, especially given the cost of MC.
It is however, one of the most effective uniform cammouflage patterns ever designed.

I was talking to a couple of guys at the last Armistice in Cambridge who "re-enact" the modern NZ Army in Afghanistan. One is actually Army and one is Territorial from memory. They said that kiwis over there soon found our uniforms were rubbish in the environment and so they get issues a certain amount of UK issue gear, as well as some of the kiwi pattern stuff that gets issued here, so the kiwis end up fairly unique these guys said.

Of course, OSH insists that whatever camo you wear, you must put a high-viz vest on top.

Reading this months Army News July 2012 there's a main feature article on the multi pattern uniform to replace the current DPM and DDPM for NZDF with a 2013 roll out.

This the camo pattern that NZDF are looking at. I thieved it from their Face Book page. It was put up on 24/7/2012 with the following comment: "We're revamping our combat clothing to provide better protection for our troops - what do you think, will we be harder to spot wearing this?"

And made in China no doubt! What the hell - NZDF may as well continue to cripple the local economy like the rest of the govt.
Remember when "Made in NZ" was something to be proud of?
Also noticed this comment on the next page: "Innovation is now an imperative for organisations to succeed and the Army is no exception."
Geez - I would love the current 'spin doctors' to chat with ex WW.II vets (especially PoW's) who, while not inventing the word, certainly put their stamp on it!

Probably not the worst pattern they could have chosen even if it looks like a cheap knock off of multicam. Uses similar colours, but no tonal graduations withing the colours like MC.
At least they didn't go for ACU, which only works in a gravel quarry.
I thought this bit from the article amusing:
'The current patterns work well in limited environments only. In the case of DPM it works well in lush green tropical and subtropical environments, however it is sub optimal in arid environments and urban terrain. Operational experience in environments such as Afghanistan has proven that the colour spectrum of the operating environment can change rapidly and personnel can quickly find themselves dressed in camouflage unsuited to the environment.'
Given the fact we are withdrawing from Afghanistan before this uniform comes into service, and re-focusing on the SW pacific, wouldn't sticking to the pattern that works best in ' lush green tropical and subtropical environments' (ie DPM) make sense?
