Great to see into this museum, thanks for posting. I wonder if that's one of the ex-RNZAF Canberras that went there?

Great to see into this museum, thanks for posting. I wonder if that's one of the ex-RNZAF Canberras that went there? I wondered about that too but B(I)58, IF907, was to have been XH237 for the RAF but it, with several others was diverted off MoD contract as part of a 68 aircraft deal for India placed in January 1957

Westland Wapiti ( built up - not that authentic however ) . Visited the same Musuem in Oct last year - on the other side from the Terminal at Delhi Airport. Did you see the big old pile of Pakistani shot-down wreckage ? Cheers Hvd1041

I thought it might be the Wapiti I'd heard of there but wasn't sure. It's hard to believe they flew one of those old things over Everest!

Cheers Raymond. I didn't know the Indian air force once operated a lunar lander! I recall it was built from donations by an American type charity made of steel. Saw the Pakistan stuff will post some pic's later. Im think the museum must have been given lots of silver paint as everything is painted silver.

Now I might be mistaken but I believe that Hurricane is the MK 1 that the RAF are swapping one of their airworthy Hurricanes (MK II) for!
And fourth photo down in Ray's first post is something we will see here soon........a Hawker Tempest II. (Not this particular one of course and most certainly not going to be silver!!)

Thats actually a very good collection. I would chuckle to know what western preservationists think of some of the historical and technical accuracy though - I love the Lysander, Hurricane and Fury Tailwheels, the flat mainwheels on virtually everything (some are even painted and the Wapiti seems to have acquired some automotive examples!) and the broom leaned up against the Fury (maybe a gift from the RNZAF as Helen's old executive transport...) It would shock the purists, but that is the way they do things there and it has more character than some of the sterile Western museums...

Theres some really interesting looking planes there...is that silvery type finish how they were operated there, or just for presentation?. I did love the artistic touch of using pot plants with the displays-very nice......Also that comment on the war trophies the the enemy tried to cast an evil eye over India-wow, thats telling them!!
