Following on from the Antarctic Medal thread I had a read of Issue 92 of the Air Force News. Saw this great photo from Phil Rowse that he entered into a photo competition : This has to be either NZ3118 or NZ3119. Only 8 P-40's had USAAF serials numbers as 43-58** and only '18 and '19 made it to Asplin's Scrap yard. The only picture I have seen with the serial number showing. Being colour makes it more special Photo Credit: Phil Rowse From Issue 92 of Air Force News; May/June 08. Tauranga ’s Classic Flyers Aviation Photographic Competition. Quote: Second placegetter, Phil Rowse joined the RNZAF in 1965 and during his four years of service was based in Wigram, Hobsonville, Woodbourne and Whenuapai. He was an ‘Aircraft Finisher’ painting the external surfaces of aircraft and applying anti-corrosive coatings. Phil's photograph is of the wings of an ex RNZAF Corsair in Asplin's Yard at Rukuhia in 1967. Phil was on leave at the time and visited the yard.
