Just managed to get my hands on this really excited. That means I now have 485, 486 wild winds and spitfire the NZ story. All I need is the 489.

Don't get too excited about Forever Strong. It is full of errors and omissions and was a huge dissapointment to all of us associated with 75 Squadron.

Yes, the book is rubbish! Enjoy the photos, they are about the only decent bit about that awful book.
Norman Franks is "world renowned" as a WWI aviation historian but he really 'phoned it in' with this one.

One is being written Chris, but it will be a while away yet. The project was started some years ago by Gp Capt Colin Hanson who himself served on the squadron as a Navigator in Lancasters and Canberras. He became ill, and in fact he passed away this past week. His project was passed on about a year ago to Stewart Boys who is working on completing it, with help from others such as Glen Turner. It's a huge task though. Glen may be able to help you with specific queries.

Hi Errol I may have got the date wrong, I have looked at the records on a site I found for photograpic records of grave stones and it says he is buried in Doetinchem General Cemetery and the date there says the 8th November 1941, not the 5th. It also states his unit as being 75 Sqd. I will request his war record from the NZDF and see what that says. I have quite an interest in this as my daugther is in the RNZAF based at Ohakea

I have quite an interest in this as my daugther is in the RNZAF based at Ohakea It appears that he's one of the two RNZAF men mentioned here in my For Your Tomorrow - A record of New Zealanders who have died while serving with the RNZAF and Allied Air Services since 1915 (Volume One: Fates 1915-1942): Sat 8/Sun 9 Nov 1941 Bomber Command Raid on Essen, Germany (by 62 aircraft - 7 lost) 75 (NZ) Squadron, RAF (Feltwell, Norfolk - 3 Group) Wellington IC X9977 - took off at approximately 1730-1850 captained by Sgt G S Nunn, RAF, and shot down by over the Netherlands by a night-fighter at 2136, crashing at IJzevoorde, 3km east of Doetinchem. All six crew are buried at Doetinchem, 26km east of Arnhem. 2nd Pilot: NZ404011 Sgt Thomas Young WYLLIE, RNZAF - Age 25. 229hrs. 1st op. Wireless Op: NZ403000 Flt Sgt Alfred Hubert HARRISON, RNZAF - Age 25. 188hrs. 11th op. Errol

Errol, my Uncle was Flt Sgt Alfred Hubert Harrison, from Gisborne, he was my mothers brother, unfortunately as I wasn't born till well after the war had ended I never got to meet him but I am proud to have him as part of my family.
