Can anyone provide a history or older photos of ZK-HLY now stored in the Ashburton Aviation Museum?
Thank you Simon Beck

Hello Flyernzl I notice you found some info on Hughes 500 ZK-HLY pretty qwick do you have anything on ZK-HMP? the remains of which rest in the bush down my drive way the kids use it as a play hut. someone told me a guy named Lyall Mudford may have owned it. It definatley crashed at some stage. I see Joe Keely once owned ZKHLY I used to kick around school with his son and i can still remember the accident that took his dads life like it was yesterday even though i was only thirteen at the time.

Did you Know - We used to use the Ol girl (ZK HLY) back in the 80s. I've got a few of pics of her in her Venison days. Steve Podjurski and Milton use to call in The Motu and eat all our food, I shot me first animals from her. My how things change?? We also worked with Bruce Kingan in ZK HWH, HKK arrived one morning walking up Mungakirikiri - I waved as they passed and Steve n Bart came and landed with a copla stags on - asking if I wanted a ride "Naa I might shoot somthing ,Yep HJP, HJH only did servicing the camps & HLM note HLM was painted up in Double Brown colours, then I was ta work with it down again Hanmer Springs as Big Stu and Bill Hales had it in 85-86, HNZs D Model ZK-HNR was lifting camps, Sadly Nikki was lost in HUC within days of the pic and Roberts n Milton in- HTB they used to dump the deer up and down on the caravan, put blood all over it - we wash it off only to get done again the next day. The 300s were flappin round as well, Spud Collins had the Chiller up the Gorge.

ZK-HLY in Ashburton According to records it was written off in Luna, New Mexico 14/06/1974. How it got to NZ is anyone's guess! ZK-HMPN9198F,ZK-HMP 369HS 74-0621S It had a FCU failure (CECO) in the Ngaruroro River. Lyal Mudford 1/3/1979. Lakeland / South West Helicopters days!

Hi garysoden Where are you located? Is the frame of HMP still with you? I am researching these 500s and their part in NZ helicopter history. Lyall Mudford was probably flying it for Eastern Bay Trappers or Lakeland Helicopters.

Hi, yes the remains of ZK-HMP rest as a play hut for me kids down my driveway.......i will try to add some photos of it. What is left of HMP is pretty rough, i'd say it was a good smash back in 1979.....would love to see any photos of HMP in the deer reco days if anyone has some, i had a good look through the books...chopper boys and Helicopter hunters... but no photos of HMP
