Wow check out the lineup for RIAT the Royal International Air Tattoo this year, www.airtattoo.com/airshow/aircraft/aircraft-confirmedI leave in 7days for a 9 week overseas trip. Will be the 1st time I get to see this airshow and super pleased to finally get to see the Vulcan. Will also attend Farnborough but unfortunately I miss out on Duxford as they changed the dates after I had booked my trip. I'm also traveling around Croatia so if I see any aircraft oddities I will certainly post. My Wife is Croatian and has not been home for some time hence the long trip. I have a couple of portable hard drives for photo storage. Cheers Potters

Don't count your chickens on the Vulcan, it is renowned for only ever showing up to half its bookings.

I went to RIAT last year, was an amazing day. I would spend the extra 21 pounds for a seat in the stands, defiantly worth it. I think you have to book on line. The amazing thing was that after the Vulcan flew, 3/4 plus of the crowd left!
I went to Farnborough in 2010. I would recommend going on a trade day. More static aeroplanes and very small crowd. You can book on line as well. I see Qatar Airways will have a 787 there.
Both air shows have a very good train-bus service.
I have pictures from both shows on this board (very old though)
enjoy

The Friday I intend to to all the static displays. Will be going by underground/overground bus etc to get there. RIAT I have tickets for Sat and Sun and in the Pimms enclosure which is supposed to be at the best spot in the normal wind conditions for Fairford near the touchdown point. Its where I like to be for photography. I hear it is quite a mission with the amount of people attending but I hope to be in a good position. Im staying in Gloucester and will be looking at the Fleet air arm museum along with the RAF museum at Cosford. Will be a free agent while in the UK as in no Wife or Child so its a week crammed full of aviation right down to having a beer at the green pub Heathrow hopefully with the big jets dumping Jet fuel into my pint . Cheers Potters Thanks for the tips vs

I have always wanted to get to Cosford, looks like a great collection. The Fleet Air Arm Museum is really good. I bought a book there called "War in a String bag" which is one of the best books I have ever read.
The two shows are great. On a trade day, there are no issues getting a good spot on the crowd line. Some great toys to buy. There is a company which sells Concorde stuff, well worth a look...I treated myself to a signed and framed Concorde turbine blade

I would love to go to a big airshow like this but on the other hand it would ruin my credit card as I would be buying lots of stuff. As for books and magazines, are they usually cheaper here or at a normal bookstore. I take it they would have some specials going etc. save save save

Air Shows not really that much cheaper than the book stores in the UK. There are a HUGE number of great book stores in the UK, I figure, since everybody spends so much time on buses and trains, they read a lot more. Books seem to be around 1/3 the price that they are here in New Zealand....Bigger market, more stores, less distance to travel, I believe no GST (VAT in the UK) Products usually out up to 6 months earlier as well. Check out www.thebookdepository.com. They have free delivery to New Zealand. You can make your own price comparison. I find you usually get your books sooner with an overseas web page rather than a NZ.

That will be nice as we missed the 757 last year... Unfortunately the RAAF Wedgetail is only going to Waddington Air Show as it would be nice to have more antipodeans there... I will be working on the trade stands again this year so will look out for any forum members coming to RIAT or air/ground crew from the 757. Anyone going?

Hope to get to RIAT this year, Martin owes me a pint or two for getting him upgraded recently! I just hope the missus will believe my excuse of needing to visit the CAA on the Friday to get my new EASA licence :-)
