DRAMATIC video footage has emerged of the moment tragedy almost struck at a popular motoring and air show. The video shows a T28A Trojan aircraft running its engine in preparation for take-off at last month's David Hack Memorial Air Show at the Toowoomba Aerodrome. The roar of the plane's engine abruptly cuts out as its front undercarriage collapses, causing the propeller and nose to smash into the ground. The pilot, believed to be an experienced flying instructor, and the young female passenger were not injured in the incident. A large crowd of air enthusiasts are seen rushing towards the stricken aircraft. The plane was one of a number of Trojans at the show. The American-built trainer aircraft was first produced in 1950, but was adapted for ground attack and saw service in Vietnam and elsewhere. The A-model Trojan is believed to be one of only 40 flying worldwide, and the only one of its kind flying in the Southern Hemisphere. The Civil Aviation Safety Authority could not confirm whether the incident was under investigation.
