I think we're all a little funny peculiar....aviation-obsessive people tend to be like that.....

Yes, I once used to think that aviation attracted a rough and tumble kind of knockabout person, but going to Avalon this year showed me that there is an 'interesting' mix of people out there in "aeroplane land". Avalon contained a greater concentration of Geeks, Nerds, Petrolheads, Ferals and Bogons (flannelette shirt, black jeans, a packet of Winnie Blues in one hand and a VB in other) than I've ever encounter at an airshow before. Mind you, there's not many other places apart from an airshow where you could find all these 'species' existing comfortably together in such close proximity to one another.

Ah, but the airshow going public are not all enthusiasts and aviatiion minded folk. Many are simply there for a day out and a thrill. I don't fit into any of the categories you mention. I'm more the interested enthusiast and historian type.

Yeah, I have to admit that I don't think I fit into any of those categories either: at least I bloody hope not! ;D
The majority of people at Avalon were everyday people, but there were a few more of the other types that I mentioned earlier than I would normally expect to run into in one place.

I was at Avalon this year, on friday. As the morning was Tade visitors only I managed tog et around most of the displays and tents. In the afternooon spent it in the corporate tent supping free crownies and eating some fine food. Went out to join the great unwashed when I wanted to take a couple of photos ;D ;D Only way to do an airshow IMHO ;D My avalon pics are here www.gibstuff.net/aircraft

Yes, the Corporate Airshow pass would definitely be the go; but I haven't worked out how to wrangle one yet! Somehow I don't think that working at a University is going to cut it with the airshow organisers. ;D
