Vauxhall Lass is a Classic Craft designed and constructed in 1942 by the Royal New Zealand Navy for the exclusive use of the RNZAF. Used principally as VIP conveyance to/from Sutherland Air Boats out of the Hobsonville Air Base, Auckland, NZ. Also utilized as an aircraft take-off auxiliary to reduce cohesive forces of the water surface thus enabling shorter take-offs.
Purchased from the Royal New Zealand Air Force for private use as a pleasure craft.
In 1967 Vauxhall Lass was professionally restored to the highest standards using the best quality materials. Restoration was carried out over a period of two years with attention to detail being paramont along with extreme care taken to preserve the charm and classic detail attainable only on a craft of this calibre.
Vauxhall Lass remains an original - it is in no way a replica.
First showing Vauxhall Lass won best of it's class in the Classic Boat show, Ruataniwha, New Zealand: Easter 1999. Winner of Best Restoration and Best Presented Boat at Port Chalmers Yatcht Club Classic Boat Day 2010.
Contructed of solid NZ Kauri and finished with Cerpely Mahogany, Vauxhall Lass is complemented with original brass fittings, original glass navigation lights and aids. Instrument panel and controls are all hand crafted.
Powered by four cylinder Willys Jeep Enging, Kermath Marine Conversion (Canada) with Kermath Sea Chief gearbox, completely re-engineered in keeping with the standards achieved during restoration.
