Hi all, I bought an Italeri 1:72 Mustang kit the other day so I could build Mr Bethell's "girlfriend", air show favourite P-51D ZK-TAF/"NZ2415".
I was wondering if anyone has any photos of her cockpit? Preferably early in her career, say up to 1996? I'd love to do her as the "classic" flown by TT Bland.
Any help would be much appreciated, and rewarded with Karma.

Zac, last time I saw it (which is probably before 1990), let me say that it is was bright inside!
I recall that the cockpit was upholstered in orange, white and brown leather/fabric by John Dilley when it was being rebuilt in the US in the early-80s. Unfortunately, I don't have any photos of it though.

argh!!!
At what point in time was that EVER considered visually acceptable?
Many crimes were committed in the 70's and this was definately one of the worst.

John Dilley seemed rather proud of it in the mid 80's, - then again he did go on and sell the aircraft. It may have been one of those things where you had to be there...... or be American... (Texan).

Tan vinyl, finished with a nice blend of cream, brown and white fabric. Mmmm, inspiration for the car.

Wow! Wasn't expecting that! Awesome - crank up the 10CC, get out the fondue set and check out the flares, big collars and wide ties!

Awesome, just what I wanted, thankyou! I had a suspicion she still looked like that inside. That's the first time I've seen photos of the rear seat, which I will of course need to scratchbuild for my kit.
Many many thanks stu, your help is very gratefully received.

Hey Zac, did you buy the one with Italian markings only? I got one the other day for $9.99 which I thought was a good price. Got some Ventura decals left over from years ago so should be able to cobble a NZ example together.

Well I guess if you can own it you can have what you like.
It didnt worry me when I flew in it 12 years ago. ;D Mind you I was not really paying any attention to upholstery

Hear hear Wasapilot, the upholstery is the least important thing involved in flying the aircraft, I'm sure. And for the record this aircraft was restored circa 1984, so I don't think the upholstery dates back to the 1970's. I guess it might insulate the cockpit a bit, cutting noise down?
