this is a really interesting clip from archives NZ about a supply expedition to Coastwatchers on the Auckland and Campbell Islands in WW2 (Aparently 1944). Its hard to imagine volunteer coastwatchers living in that environemnt isolated for 12 months at a time. I hadn't come across references to the wartime camps on these islands before. The film maker is obviously taken by the wildlife in the Southern Ocean - although that doesnt stop them bringing back a seal skin for the Christchurch museum!

What a great film. I had no idea the coast watchers were down there, and nor did I know that the PWD made films. It must have been a novel film foe the folks back home to see at the time.
I had also never heard of a female sea lion being a sea bear either. Thanks for that Bruce.
