No news about participation - not too long to go now.
It is hard to see anything that is pulled out of the hat making up for the mozzie heading overseas.
Still, a standard line up at Omaka is none too shabby.

For me, the FW190 and MKXIV Spitfire (or even MKXVI) head-to-head along with the airborne circus of WWI aircraft - all at once - are what will make Omaka this year. Having spent more than my usual annual airshow budget this year chasing a certain DH98, I may not make it to Omaka...

Of course the Anson might get to headline a show and the FW190 hasn't 'lead' a major show yet either has it?

It hasn't, so my money's on the '190.
johnnyfalcon: which XVI?

I've just received word that arrangements are being made for 23 SQN to stay at Woodbourne on the weekend (from Saturday?) and attend the air show with free roam around the place for the whole day. I might have to take my officers up on this offer, although it may prove a hinderence to doing a couple of things I was planning, but I'm sure I'll work around it. This would be a great opportunity to have a look at what life is like on base, even if we aren't actually doing much there. Looking foward to it whether I go with 23 or not. One question, what's the word on the Mossie? Is it being shipped out before the show? I'm much looking foward to seeing it, but it being at Omaka would mean I wouldn't have to wait a few years to see it in person.

The Mosquito leaves NZ on February 15th so will definitely not be at Omaka.

It's looking like a somewhat different approach to promotion compared to 2011. They were stung somewhat by people saying aircraft would be ready last time - should be less uncertainty this time. Only question I can think of is will we have three Spitfires? Are there WW1 types nearing completion?
Has there been much advertising around Blenheim/Nelson?

I should add that I'm especially looking forward to seeing the FW190 displaying, and whatever surprises the organisers have planned.

Graham has told me they have deliberately held off on promotion as there have been two other major NZ airshows in past weeks and they wanted to avoid confusion to the public and not get cross-pollunation of ideas in people's minds, which is sensible. He told me that the press releases are about to begin, so watch this space.

I am really looking forward to Omaka. Went in 2011 and it was fantastic. Great spectacle, brilliantly programmed and yet a relaxed atmosphere. Bring on the Gold Pass and more of those lamb shanks from the vendors !

I've seen comments on drawcards for the show... Hey, if the Focke Wulf, Spitfire XIV and Avenger are attending along with the other usual attendees, I'll have no complaints whatsoever. I've been waiting for so long to see the 190 especially, and if NH799 is ready for the show too, I'll be over the moon. It'll be excellent to see Plonky with the Corsair and Kittyhawks too!!

I forgot to mention Plonky! Also looking forward to a fuller display from the NH90 than was possible at Ohakea.

I was very impressed with the NH90 display at the Ohakea air show. Very quiet for such a large helicopter

Official Press Release
SIGNIFICANT COMBATANT RETURNS FOR CLASSIC FIGHTERS As the excitement builds towards the huge Classic Fighters Easter Airshow at the end of March, workers are toiling against the clock on various significant aeroplanes in the hope of having them completed in time for the show. These include a rare Spitfire Mk.XIVe in Auckland and a WW-I Fokker in Blenheim. In the lower North Island it is a US-built Grumman TBM ‘Avenger’. This aircraft was designed and built as a torpedo bomber, a role in which it acquitted itself admirably. Primarily designed for operating from aircraft carriers as it did with the US Navy and the Royal Navy’s Fleet Air Arm, the Avenger was employed successfully by the RNZAF as a land-based bomber and New Zealand crews have been applauded for their fine work in these aircraft, 48 of which were employed by Kiwi forces.
There have been no Avengers flying in New Zealand for some years so when this aircraft was brought into the country last year by Marton-based pilot Brendon Deere, his intention from the beginning was to strip off its US Navy paint scheme and refinish it as it would have appeared if it was one of the Avengers flown by the RNZAF. This work is now well underway at the aircraft’s base at (appropriately) RNZAF Base Ohakea where Brendon also keeps his beautiful Spitfire Mk.IX.
If all goes to plan, the freshly repainted Avenger will make its triumphant arrival at Omaka on the Thursday before Easter, and with the Spitfire alongside as fighter escort!

I see on FB that the 757 has been pulled out of the Avalon show in Aus . Perhaps they are concentrating on closer to home stuff ( although there is 4 weeks in between )
