It seems that a frigate of the Peoples Liberation Army Navy has manged to run aground in the Spratley Islands. Thi area is disputed territory between Chine, Phillipines, Vietnam, Brunei and Malaysia. So methinks that the frigates Captain will be getting a big please explain. In the RN, RNZN, RAN, RCN the grounding of ones ship earns the Captain an automatic Courts Martial regardless of the fact of the Captains physical position at the time of the grounding. It doesn't matter whether he / she was asleep in his / her bunk or even ashore at a conference - as one RN destroyer Captain found out. It's his / her ship: his / her responsibility and even if a less senior officer is conning the ship at the time still the Captains Courts Martial. I would think the PLAN and their political masters would take a harsher view because it will be seen as loss of face and political especialy as this occured in a contested are and they were effectivly bullying the local Phillipine fishermen. www.defensenews.com/article/20120713/DEFREG03/307130003/Chinese-Frigate-8216-Stranded-8217-Disputed-WatersAnother reason why I avoided being an officer
