The trouble is that being here in USA, I can't bid on them.

I've already mentioned my first flight on NAC in the Vickers Viscount thread...hilarious. My other, now faded, memories as a very young 4 to 7 year old are of family coming and going at Invercargill airport. Standing out on the viewing area watching F27s and 737s arriving and departing was real noisy fun! We lived on Gala Street and got a real good view of aircraft arriving and departing. It was one day in 1978 that I noticed a 737 arriving with Air NZ titles and promptly told my parents so...They, of course knew the reason why. Other memories included the 'Marching Girls' ad as my Aunty was one of them, and a trip to Christchurch in 1979 included a visit to the still developing Ferrymead Museum and a sudden encounter with BRF, which by then was 'stuffed and mounted' without it's Darts and props in final National Airways colours. Nowadays retro tee-shirts is where you most spot NAC colours today...Air NZ seem so tight with the old brand! Wish they'd let Gemini Jets, DragonWings et al model them.

I was wondering what ANZ is so restrictive with the NAC logo. Even though NAC is back - albeit purely as a 'paper' corporation, it would have been good publicity for ANZ to put the godwit back on the forward fuselage of their domestic jets...

There were the later Colour TV ads that ran the "Fly South" and "Fly North" theme just before the end with the 737's in "Wings of the Nation" livery. The South ad was pretty good from what I remember. I think John Grennell sang it.

I can remember flying out of Napier in Fokker Friendships on a few occasions when they used Runway 25. It starts as a sealed runway, then about half-way along becomes a grass runway. You definitely felt the transition from tarseal to grass during the takeoff run. I can remember landing on that runway once too in a Friendship, touching down on the tarseal, then running off that onto the grass during the landing roll. I vaguely remember the NAC Friendship I was in (early '70's) touching down on a grass field next to a runway. I always wondered why that was...

Hokitika's runway was gravel for years well into the NAC F27 era.

So was Kaitaia. All 3 runways were stabilised metal. I remember doing a landing there and hearing some of the small gravel flying up and hitting the underside of the wing. Not good for the paint. If my memory serves me correctly, i think Hokitika and Kaitaia were the only two in NZ that had this type of runway.

Re F-27- Seem to remember that the grass cross vector at Woodbourne was used in certain wind conditions...

If my memory serves me correctly, i think Hokitika and Kaitaia were the only two in NZ that had this type of runway. When they finally paved Kaitaia', NAC leased in from Mount Cook a BN Islander, ZK-MCD and painted it in 'Wings of the Nation' scheme...It landed on a grass strip while the pavers worked flat tack to get the job done.
