So who here saw Ken Ross wandering around at the airshow?? Thought he had big kahunas showing up there, being that I would guess more than one attendee would be owed money by the man!!

Stereoimage, thanks for that great line up of photos, as you say, a different perspective. I know I went up the Ak for the Mosquito, but there was a lot of neat stuff besides. Who, like me, thought that was the best glider display they'd ever seen? The shot of the Moths peeling off is a cracker too as is the Anson rear three quarter shot. All good. Slackie, sorry, who the heck is Ken Ross, us provincial types may not be up with big city bad boys , also I think the word is cojones, vulgar spanish for testicles or excessive nerve, which sounds like it might be right for this instance. A kahuna is a Hawaian big man, top of the heap, etc, not sure if thats appropriate here seeing as I don't know who the gentleman chappie is. Steve.

No Virginia, it ain't no Mustang, does not sound like two Mustangs, two Spits, two Hirricanes or half a Lanc........... but it did sound and look beautiful. As my mate Trev in the UK says, they all have their own songs and that one was particularly beautiful and rare !

'just for S and G, here's a little something from the other side of the fence - a page from the flying logbook of one Gottfried Schneider - one of only two men to operationally fly the ill-fated German night-fighter version of the Mosquito - the Ta 154 Moskito...flights 944, and 947 to 951 were operational sorties from Marx airfield against in-bound Bomber Command 8 Group Mosquitos heading to Berlin, with the latter five sorties aborted due to failure of the SN-2 radar (they had problems with the wing-mounted dipole aerials and interference)...

The combat report makes a great read and an amazing insight as to how difficult it was for the crews to make a sucessful interception and then be able to down the enemy aircraft, all at night. I hope I am not stepping out of line here, but, maybe the forum can start a thread so that allan2805 can share his story in more detail. Best regards Bob Howard javascript:add("%20:)") Hi Howard, thanks for your feedback. Frank's journal records the lead up to what he knew to be his last flight with 488. (disbandment effective 26/4 had been announced on the 23rd and his patrol of 24/25th was the last he was rostered for). If you can imagine the following: "Frank and Dickie were scheduled for an early patrol on the night of hte 24th and as they climbed into their aircraft for the last time, they shared their joy with the groudn crew that they would all soon be back with their families again. Frank and Dickie had become close friends and as they climbed away from Gilze Rijen, they discussed their plans for the future. Frank was going back to TImaru to the jewellery business and Dickie was continuing his studies and work in architecture. Dickie was goig to design the house for Frank and they were discussing it when they were interrupted by the ground mobile radar controller who told them that he 'had something for them'. They could not believe it but did not argue." Two young men in a cockpit glow, dark at night, discussing their future when the war while almost over, intervened.....

I am trying to piece together an accurate list of all the aircraft and people that displayed in this airshow. However I have some gaps and some queries. Can you help please? First up, the Tiger Moths: In the seven-ship formation I have: DH60 ZK-ADT - Jan White DH82 ZK-BAH - Ryan Southam DH82 ZK-BMY - Jerry Chisum DH82 ZK-BLI - ? DH82 ZK- - ? DH82 ZK- - ? Also who was the wingwalker on top of ZK-BLI in a seperate display? I know that Dave Phillips aerobatted ZK-BEN but I don't think that aircraft was part of the big formation, was it? And lastly for the Tiger Moths, when the Fox Moth, Dragon and Moth Minor displayed there was a silver Tiger Moth too. Which was that? And was it one of the already mentioned?

you can look this one up on the CAA page (or one of the search engines that uses their data)
I could answer a couple of the others (looking at my photos) if I had time, but it isn't going to happen this evening. Have you looked at the description on the HAFU videos on youtube?
