In LA there is Chino with 2 great museums. San Diego has a great aircraft carrier museum and an air and space museum. new York has the intrepid aircraft carrier. If you look around this forum there are lots of pics from each one

Many good suggestions there. Planes of Fame, Chino, as mentioned before is essential. As I said in the previous thread, best online resource for finding stuff is my friend Mike Henneger's Locator www.aerialvisuals.ca/Locator.phpAs well as PoF at Chino, there's Yanks Air Museum, you can do both in a day. PoF offer warbird rides too, so if you've wanted to backseat in a P-51, P-40, P-47 et al... And yes, Flo's. Old Rhinebeck in upstate New York is a shadow of its former self, I understand, but may be worth a look if you are there on a show day. HTH!

Hi spongebob206, theres plenty to see in San Diego, Chino and some in LA. I live in Santa Monica and have visited most of the aviation museums in the state. In San Diego, theres a lot to see - more than in Los Angeles IMO: The USS Midway Museum, The San Diego Air & Space Museum, and the San Diego Chapter of the Commemorative Air Force. www.midway.org/www.sandiegoairandspace.org/www.ag1caf.org/Chino isn't part of Los Angeles and is about an hours freeway drive south of Los Angeles, or about 90 minutes driving time northeast of San Diego. Its best to go on the weekend when theres a great vibe from the volunteers and work being done there. Better yet, time it for the first weekend of the month to see their Living History Event highlighting one of the collections aircraft. planesoffame.org/index.phpSanta Monica Museum of Flying is a shadow of its previous self, smaller and less emphasis on warbirds/WWII. Its been moved to a new facility since the original closed about 10 years ago. It has a nice collection of old civilian aircraft and a couple of early Navy jets. museumofflying.com/Los Angeles has much less, but you might like the USS Iowa Battleship Museum recently opened in San Pedro, Port of Los Angeles. I've seen it and its really very interesting. www.pacificbattleship.com/Send me a PM if you need additional info. I also met JDK at the Planes of Fame Airshow two years ago and he'd be a great source of info about California too. Chris

That was a good weekend, wasn't it? To be honest, Mrs JDK and I spent most of our time with Mike and Ania in San Francisco, not on Derek's list, and I didn't manage to get to San Diego on the one day free I had, which in hindsight was a mistake. I think you've pointed out the main things I'm aware of! Regards,

This is in the same big park as The San Diego Air & Space Museum, I really enjoyed the murals. If the rest of the family are going to one of the other museums there, but not for long enough for you to go to Air & Space, worth going in for an hour. www.yelp.com/biz/veterans-museum-memorial-san-diegoAttachments:

Hope they don't get too bored. Don't hope, make it entertaining. There's no boring subjects, just poor presentation. Have a great time!

Hi All Looking for amazing warbird/aviation hotspots. Will be visiting LA, San Diego, Las Vgas and New York. Idea's much apprieciated. Cheers Derek Your post has got me motivated to convert some of my pic's from a trip I did to the states in 1995. They are copies from slides so a bit poor and I am a warbird fan so that's all you will get out of me, will try and get them posted over the next couple of days. Of the places I visited Chino by far the best for range and pure wow factor!
