This week I purchased a copy of the Weekly News magazine, with an excellent article about the introduction into service of the RNZAF A-4K's.
A Weekly News reporter and photographer became the first two civilians to fly in the RNZAF Skyhawks, and they were flown from Ohakea to Wellington for an air to air photo shoot over the capital, then onto Ruapehu where two of the three TA-4K's linked up for an air to air refuelling photo shoot over the mountain. There are lovely coloured photos.
The publication date is 27th of July 1970. The reporter was Keith Berry, and the photog was Barry Durrant. The pilots were Flt Lt Trevor Bland in NZ6251, Flt Lt Ross Ewing in NZ6252 and John Woolford in another TA-4K.
Interestingly the flight's call sign was 'Kiwi Red'.
Anyone interested in seeing a scan of the article?

I tried unsuccessfully to buy a copy of it on Trade Me about a year ago, so a scanned copy would be great Dave.

No problem. It may take me a few days to get over to Mum's to use the scanner, so watch this space.

Yes please, I have a couple of photos in very poor condition from that article. Unfortunatley as a kid I cut it up to go into some project (wish I'd listened to my parents advice now).

Damn, it has been reduced automatically by Photobucket so the text is tiny. If you have trouble reading it, let me know. the photos are great though, eh?

Dave, If people use/install Internet Explorer 7 there is a zoom function in the bottom right hand corner. Zooming in to 200 or 250% makes the text more readable but a lot is still not readable. Phil.

I did the scanning for this at Mum's place this afternoon. The original files looked fine but it seems Photobucket has resized them which annoys me.
I cannot remedy anything till I get back to Mum's - I ran out of time this afternoon. I'll try to make them more readable next week. In the meantime, enjoy the lovely photos guys.

If you down load the files (Right click Save as) you should be able to read the text from there
The file sizes are about 650KB. Dave if these aren't the orignal file sizes email the raw images to me and I can host them on my web site

I'm not sure of the original file size in kb's but I made them all about 800 pixels across when i reduced them. Is that what they're coming out at for you in 100% form?
I think Photobucket reduced them.

Thanks Dave - absolutely brilliant photos! Amazing that so much colour was used in a newspaper type magazine that long ago! Don't they look bright and new in the photos. None of the flaking paint, patches and leaks we had after 30 years of hard use!

Indeed. It's great photography too - but then the Weekly News alway had the best photographers. What a shame that great weekly newspaper folded.
I reckon you should contact Wilson and Horton who own the rights and see if you can get the negs for your book.

Excellent photos of the early config and colours - Straight refuelling probe, fern leaf roundels, light grey fuel tanks etc. definitely worth seeing if the photos can be made available for your book.
