I was seriously tempted to put this in the preserving NZ Aviation History since that is the intention of the project... As Rob has let the cat out of the bag on their facebook page, I present to you the beginnings of the Pacific Wings/NZ Wings Archive: www.pacificwingsmagazine.com I'll write up some further posts on how to use it, what's their already in there (etc etc) soon.

Right, lets start with a brief what in here. At the moment all issues back to 1983 have been indexed, with a smattering of issues back to 1974 thus far. This means that a list of all of the articles has been completed, along with their author details etc. You can browse the issues on the archives pages 1990 - 2012: www.pacificwingsmagazine.com/issuelist1974 - 1989: www.pacificwingsmagazine.com/issuelist1970-1989Or, view all of the articles by author using the author index: www.pacificwingsmagazine.com/author-indexMore importantly, some issues have been archived - what this means is that a full PDF of that article is available to download. (cool huh!) If an article has been archived its full text content is available to be searched Thus, if you search Agricola ( www.pacificwingsmagazine.com/search/site/agricola ) You will note that some of the results such as the Golden Shears pageant have returned because Agricola was mentioned in the text rather than in the title or abstract. Hopefully this should make obscure mentions of things easy to find, and access, particularly as more issues are archived. In terms of what has been archived so far, I am concentrating on October, November, December issues to start with and I've done 1983 - 1992 thus far plus a few extras here and their. Current issues (2012) are not available for download, but they are searchable and are instead available via the Zinio digital subscription service

If your interested in how they are scanned in - I have a high volume production scanner and a custom made non-destructive document scanner. With the production scanner the spines of the magazines are cut off and scanned , whereas the non destructive scanner allows me to scan books/magazines at a reasonable pace without damaging the originals - quite important with really rare things. I should have access to most old copies to run through the non-destructive scanner - but it takes much much longer to do this vs the production scanner. If anyone has boxes of pre 1975 issues of NZ Wings that can be donated (and thus sacrificed) to the project flick me a PM. Copyright remains with the author in most cases, and some people have been contacted to ensure they are OK with their content being within the archive. As can be imagined there are hundreds of authors and its impossible to track them all down, particularly if they are deceased, so if you are a rights holder and want it removed use the 'contact us' form to let Rob know. To all of the rights holders who are happy to have their content available the NZ aviation community loves you If you find any errors or have any questions feel free to leave a post here

This is great! I wrote an article for Ross in the April 1994 magazine and I'm very happy to have it preserved in the Wings archive. I don't think I'll throw out my paper copy of that issue just yet though

Just a quick update on the archive; There are now over 3000 individual articles in there making up over 300 issues, all searchable and fully available as PDF's in the archive ( plus more issues that are indexed but not yet archived). Over 600 authors have been indexed so far. Today I have uploaded a big batch of mid-1970's issues - thanks to scrooge for providing a box of old copies to run through the fast scanner they were a great help- there are still quite a few of these to come. The earliest issue in the archive thus far is May 1972. While there is still a long way to go (and many gaps to fill!) it is getting there slowly. If you have not seen the archive before it can be found on-line here: 2013 -> 1990 issues: www.pacificwingsmagazine.com/issuelist1989 -> 1972 issues: www.pacificwingsmagazine.com/issuelist1970-1989Enjoy

It seems the Wings archive and the entire Pacific Wings website is no more.

Can someone confirm for me when (month and year) the very last issue of Pacific WINGS was published? In particular I would like to see the masthead page of that particular issue. Just to clarify the masthead is that section of the magazine, usually near the front detailing points of contact, name of publisher and editor in chief, etc etc. i.e. the bit we generally don't read! Thanks in advance for posting it on this thread.

It seems the Wings archive and the entire Pacific Wings website is no more. Damn. That archive, although incomplete, was an amazing resource.

Their Facebook page is still there, but as usual little about NZ aviation.
The website vanished once before, but re-appeared later.

Yeah the website will be back when I get time to fix it - its pretty low on priorities at the moment as I have other things going temporarily that involve a lot of mud in this weather The final issue was August/September 2015 - the 2nd digital issue. I'll PM you a copy of the masthead from it:)
