I see NZ1024 had a good stable mate while in storage sitting next to NZ1012(now with the Ashburton Aircraft Museum). Also NZ1037 is now owned and flown by Brendon Deere. (Good training before flying the Spitfire eh Brendon? ;D)

Dave,
There was a large area of Marsden matting to the West of 1 hangar at Ohakea. It was still under the grass well into the eighties until it was dug up. A bunch of it was sent to Wigram for use with displays there ( under the TBF?). Bound to have been at other airfields as well.

Thanks for that. Interesting stuff. I guess it was just as good on muddy ground in NZ as in the Pacific.

The following Harvards served with No. 31 (Torpedo Bomber) Squadron at RNZAF Station Gisborne in January 1944 according to Leyton Stephenson's logbook. NZ1013 NZ1016 NZ1034 NZ1039 NZ1049
Were these previously on strength with No. 30 Squadron? If so would there have been the same PA- code letters on them?

Any idea what the colour scheme is on 1055 in the second photo? the underside looks like it is camouflaged (white, grey or sky) with a wavy edge, but what is the top colour? it isnt silver, As I would guess the rudder is that colour, nor is it yellow as the roundel has a dark surround, likely to be yellow in Ortho film. It doesnt seem to have a fin flash either - unless there are traces of a pacific style flash... quite an unusual scheme!

Indeed Bruce. It almost looks like it could have been in a Corsair-style blue scheme and become very faded? Could it have been a trainer or hack at Ardmore with a Corsair training unit maybe, and thus given a representative colour scheme?
What a pity more coloured film was not about in those days.

Great shots there Wayne ! - especially the wartime ones - which are often much more 'interesting' that the more recent shots.
Am I right in saying only the Qty 1 wartime colour shot - the one of NZ948 being washed at WB ?
