Not sure of the date Dave - was thinking the second photo might be a good candidate for your colouring talents? I have a large version of it.

Great shots NZ1009. It's amazing how many photos of each Harvard actually have been archived. It's great you have been able to delve into the collection for us all, thanks. As for the earlier shot you suggested might look good with some colour, well it didn't turn out too flash but here is an attempt using the version you posted and a little artist's licence.

Actually Dave I think that it looks pretty good - to me the addition of colour just adds a whole new dimension to the photo. I will send you a PM is a few days to discuss taking this a step further.

I think they were simply 'buzz' numbers - identification numbers so that others in the air or on the ground can i.d. the aircraft. Tiger Moths had them too so it was nothing to do with radio call numbers as they never had radios. So probably more so people could report low flying and they'd know who was flying the aircraft, etc.

NZ1009, I'm glad you liked the picture.
I actually did this colourisation twice last night. I was damn near finished and suddenly thought I had better save it as I hadn't yet, and someone seemingly smacked into a powerpole somewhere in Cambridge as the power flicked off and on and that was followed by sirens. Of course the PC went off too, and I lost the lot and had to start again. Doh!

Turns out a 17 year old lad was killed when he hit the powerpole. Losing my photoshopping work seems pretty minor now. RIP

Fantastic shots! I love that one of NZ987 and its friends flying over the valley. The Woodbourne tarmac shots are great too. What's going on with the fuselages on the trucks? Disposal or repair? They look like WWII colour schemes so must be repair?
