It is No 1 Hangar, Wigram - currently the Air Force Museum display hall. The left side of the hangar is the airfield side of the hangar. The doors in the side wall lead to PTS offices. The open hangar door faces out to 2 Hangar. In my time the other end of the hangar was used for devon aircraft. Every work day morning there was a frantic effort to get all these aircraft, plus the Devons out on the line, ready for the students, before 0830! jurisnz

I was in 5 hangar the mid 60s. and I recall there were efforts made to reduce the the Harvard's noise level - without success. On the other hand that long pipe without the fish-tail end was later used for smoke generation. In that case one would expect to see the top of the diesel tank strapped to the rear seat.

Although in my previous message I wrote I would not post any more messages, I feel a reply is warranted. I thought I may have memories to add to the forum. But is it worth the effort?
I had intended to share my memories of the very early, pre-Air Force Museum days, collection at Wigram. Unfortunately it is not to be.
The biggest barrier is the difficulty of posting photographs. I do not have the time messing about trying to figure it all out - and I am by no means an Internet/computer novice.

I personally would love to hear your memories of the pre-Air Force Museum days, and if the posting of photos is a barrier for you, I am more than willing to post the photos into your posts for you if you email them to me. You write the posts and I'll put the photos into them, as admin I can do that easily.
Please don't give up on us, the sharing of history is important, and especially really interesting history such as you have to share with us.

Had a good climb over 1099 around this time last year just outside of Sydney... she's seen better days. Not sure what's left of her a year on - but I believe it was being used as a parts machine after an accident well and truly rooted the airframe. Looked ok to the eye, but was twisted. Shame, it was a really nice looking machine that was restored to an incredible standard.
All lies. haha... incorrect aircraft!!!!!

Ah man, that is very sad. NZ1099 was my all time favourite of the Warbirds Harvards when it was flying in NZ, it looked really good and was in proper wartime colours. Bugger.

Really when did that happen? That is a shame,as Dave said she was a wonderful example restored to flight. I even have a photo of her taken at the Airshow at Wigram in 73 parked by the HQ building.

'34 used to be NZ1060 in the RNZAF.Apparently the ground loop was quite bad. Significant damage to wings and centre section. Also NZ1099 did a ground loop as well but its repaired and flying again,earlier this year.

Phew, I was worried about NZ1099!
I doubt there are many RNZAF Harvards still flying that have not performed a ground loop at some point.
