That was a tragic day for NZ Warbirds and the preservation scene in New Zealand to lose John Greenstreet. A very sad event indeed. He contributed such things to the secene as the import of the Sea Fury and the Trojan, I believe, and was Warbrids Vice-President at the time form memory. We'll not forget him. It is interesting to see that NZ1025 had a trroubled history right from the start.

The following photos were taken by John B Pierre. They have been supplied to me by Denys Jones of Ferrymead who was in turn given them by John's son Rob. Denys says of John Pierre: "While at Airwork he was in charge of the uplifting of the stored Harvards at Wigram and the three shots show how he moved a number of them to Lyttelton for shipment north. Others were containerised and went to the US." Photo from the late John B. Pierre's Collection, via Rob Pierre. Photo from the late John B. Pierre's Collection, via Rob Pierre. My late Uncle owned NZ1025 and I have a bunch of photos floating around of it (somewhere!). Here's me hopping up on the wing to head off for a ride, I'm guessing this was about 1988-89 or so. Apologies for the poor picture quality, I'll endeavour to get my scanner up and running!

NZ1025 was the late ZK-ENN.
Was your uncle John Greenstreet?

I remember when your uncle bought it from Dave Diamond and Jim Sullivan at Timaru. Dave and Jim got it airworthy following airforce disposal. Jims kids called it Dad and Dave's plane. Knew all this cos I worked with Daves daughter at the time. She was our young receptionist at Radio Caroline in the mid 80's. I remember her saying how thrilled GS was with his new purchase. As you would be.

This photo was in a collection of wartime photos belonging to the late RNZAF Corsair pilot Norm Rosser. Baz and I have been wondering if this is NZ901 (unlikely) or NZ1001. The place looks like Woodbourne? NZ901 spent it's short career at Tauranga with the CFS before crashing there in 1942 (before Norm joined the RNZAF in 1943) but NZ1001 served its whole time at Wigram till crashing in 1945. Maybe this is the latter on a visit to Woodbourne?

Just above the wing , to the left of the picture , there seems to be a flat area , like a lake or something ( could be just my vision ) . Could it be Grassmere ( south of Blenheim ) ,I seem to recall reading that they did a bit of training from there at one stage ?

Exactly, the sun is obviously to the right of picture.... a strange place for it to be. For Woodbourne I would expect to see it on the other side of the aircraft.

The other thing Dave and I were discussing is the "01' on the fuselage side panel. Could it be a unit code? Dave thinks if it isn't then it's more likely to be NZ1001 as by the time this photo was taken NZ901 had been written off.

I had wondered about RNZAF Norwood too. I'm not familiar with the hills there though. it's just No. 22 (AC) Squadron had camouflaged Harvards at Norwood I believe.
