I have just acquired this image of a Harvard, said to be taken at Omaka 20April2003. It is obviously decorated in one of those 'wash off' paint schemes. Anyone know the actual ID of this aircraft?

Marty Nicoll tells me that the Harvard shot that Peter posted was a temporary scheme to look like a French Hawk 75, and he thinks it was Dave Lochead that organised the aircraft being painted. I recall they added French markings to the Catalina too, and built a replica Eiffel Tower. I was not there, my first one was 2007 and this happened in 2003. A couple of other Harvards also got temporary markings it seems.

After watching the airshow video NZ1099/ZK-ENK was the yellow one (easy to pick!), NZ1098/ZK-ENJ was the "Macchi", and I think the "Hawk 75" without underwing roundels was NZ1092/ZK-WAR. I'm fairly confident the aircraft in the photo Peter shared was NZ1053/ZK-JJA.
2005 (my first Omaka) was the year of the Francofied Catalina and the Eiffel Tower.

Question. 14 Sqn FAC Harvards. From memory, NZ1017, NZ1037, NZ1056. Why did they not carry 14 Sqn markings?

The difference was that these aircraft did not carry any of the training scheme while in use as FAC aircraft (ie silver overall)

Came across these images from Craig Justo in Classic Wings, Issue 40: NZ1052 & NZ1092
NZ1099 & NZ1098Yes they were painted by "the creative Dave Lockheed" using special washable paints developed in Marlborough by Equis Industries just for airshow and movie applications and "these striking paint jobs were gone by lunch time on Easter Monday!" Quote: "The second World War airfield attack (mindful that this was North Africa) featured two Vichy French Curtiss Hawk 75As (Looking like accurately painted Harvards) a Macchi MC.200 (also looking somewhat Harvard-like but very nicely finished) and the Messerschmitt Me108." ........

Have just come across this site and with great interest read about 1061, just a great aircraft. Remember well it's arrival in Broken Hill. I think the pilot also had trouble lifting the seat up. Indeed Graham Ainswerth checked Warwick out in the Harvard and owned a T18. He had been a member of No. 21 (City of Melbourne, citizen air force ) Squadron and had flown Vampires. Presume he came through Tiger Moths and Wirraway's. For memory, he told me he checked Bruce Andrews out in the Harvard when they went to inspected them and then, lamented, Bruce wouldn't let him fly the Fury when he owned it. At the Broken Hill airshow, I think in 83,Jack McDonald was indeed flying the B25, Bruce Andrews in the Fury (Sea) and Mustang VH-BOB was flown (for memory) by Ed Field. As of 20-5-24 registration change to Alan Clements, Casey, ACT Refer page 43/44
