I was hoping the collective WONZ brain trust could help me identify the Corsairs in the photos below. I believe the Corsair in both of the photos below are BuNo.92044 (NZ5648), which was refurbished in 1962 by the Waikato Aero Club as “Josephine”. Asplin also had BuNo.88090 (NZ5612) on site, but its not the aircraft pitured. Can anyone help confirm or correct my assumptions on this?

Can't confirm or deny, but can certainly throw in my opinion that you are right, pictured is 5648 which was essentially complete. 5612 was not as complete, including damage to the rear fuselage.

Wow, world famous among the real world Tony, not just the aviation nuts. You clearly need to post more pictures, you've a lot more items there than the ones I've seen on this forum?

Going through my records ( junk as my wife calls it) I came across a air record publication Warhawk issued by C Darby and P Hanson in 1962. Many may know of it but it lists a 100 or so P40 s at Rukuhia. For a folded A4 it has plenty of info. Of note are the aircraft still showing " jap flags" NZ 3081 4 flags 3194 2 flags and 3087, 3119,and 3202 with one each. What a score for a museum today. If the train spotters are interested maybe I can scan it and put it on the board. Did anyone else have the interest to list the Corsairs , Hudsons and Venturas that went through the dump.

I don't think I have ever seen a NZ aircraft with the jap flags painted on the side (although the Motat Ventura rear fus art is pretty graphic), would be great if you could post.

The reason they are not common Richard is because the aircraft were issued to servicing Units not squadrons or individual pilots. However, if you want to see some photos try making a start with Darby's RNZAF The First Decade book. NZ 3220 , 2 1/2 flags, NZ 3061, 3 Flags + 1 NZ Flag and Fiskens aircraft although those may have been chalked on for PR photo purposes (or so one story goes)

Hi Damon 808. Blog Newbee here and have recently go onto this thread. Amazing pis and info throughout, and noticed since your post reagrding the mystery creek gully it looks like you've been doing a bit of digging - or helping one or two guys with digs of there own. Im keen to have a look around there myself, can you cast any light on progress on who owns the area, and how I could legally have a play with the spade ? or if anyone is down there regularly looking when they plan to have thier next exploration ?
