Since New Zealand has cornered the market in rebuilding P40s here's how it used to be done by Curtiss. (Couldn't maker link work so posted link to Key Publishing thread about it:

When a link doesn't work it is because there is a symbol in it that breaks the link, such as this one has a @ in the middle. Simply highlight the link and click the "Insert Hyperlink" button (that looks like a globe of the earth) and it will add tags at each end that solves the issue.

For those who may be interested, the blue colour on many of the aircraft was a clear primer tinted with prussian blue.
