It is both fascinating and very sad to see that crash site, thanks for those photos Shorty. Have you tramped in to see the Hudson wreck on Farewell Spit by any chance?

Haven't been to the Farewell Spit Hudson (yet!) But on the other side of the island is this P-40. This is Graeme Orphans P-40N-1 A29-405 HU-S of 78 Sqn ex Tadji . This particular aircraft is up for sale (see Classic Wings) so that Graeme can concentrate on his other P-40. A29-405 HU-S by Neville Mines, on Flickr A29-405 by Neville Mines, on Flickr

At Omaka we have Grahams "other" P-40 (the serial of which escapes me at this moment) 42-10178 A29-183 by Neville Mines, on Flickr and also the P-40 that Mike Nicholls was restoring before he sold it P40 by Neville Mines, on Flickr

I think it went to Aussie, a check through Classic Wings will confirm. He sold it to finance the P-36 I believe.

In Dec 1969 I was working across the road from the railway goods yards and can recall seeing a P40 fuselage on a rail wagon. I always assumed it was John Chambers one, but this is the first photo I have seen of it - thanks Shorty.

Seeing as I mentioned Mike's P-36 I had better post a shot of it.Work is proceeding on it, it's really a rebuild rather than a restoration, I think it will be only the data plate that is original. Mikes P-40N-5 42-105526 went to Woodstock Aviation in California who sent it to pioneer Aero for completion to flying status. No doubt it will end up with sharks teeth! The Americans think they are compulsory!!

Just an update on some of the P-40s I have posted photos of.
Yep. Mikes one ended up with sharks teeth (now there's a suprise)
Graham Orphans "other" P-40 is a P-40K-10 42-10178/A29-183
P-40N-1 NZ3125 ex John Chambers is flying with Allan Arthur as VH-ZOC in NSW painted as a RAF 112 Sqn (with sharks teeth!)
P-40E NZ3094 also ex John Chambers went to the late Col Pay and flies in RAAF 3 Sqn desert scheme
Mike's Hawk 75/P-36 was built for a French contract, but diverted to the Norwegian Air Force then captured by the Germans who used it as an advanced fighter trainer. Sold to the Finnish Air Force who used it against the Russians (it shot down 4) before being shot down itself. Recovered in 01 it was then taken to Moscow before Mike acquired it

So John Chambers owned three P-40's then?
NZ3094 - now in Australia with late Col Pay collection NZ3119 - now in USA NZ3125 - now with Alan Arthur?
Is that right???
I had thought NZ3125 came from Charles Darby's collection rather than John Chambers?
That Hawk has certainly got an amazing history.

As a bit of a change from P-40s and RNZAF Types we have some shots from Wigram You may rcall that when the original arrived it was escorted in by Bristol Fighters. At the time I took these the RNZAF were right out of Brisfits so instead they had to make do with CT-4s (Hey, both sorts were single engined, two seaters with fixed U/C, thats close!) scan0081 by Neville Mines, on Flickr scan0082 by Neville Mines, on Flickr scan0083 by Neville Mines, on Flickr
