Shorty, Here is the Beaufort in Ian Whitney's back yard in May 1987, my first visit to Oz. May I ask if you have any shots of Monty's Spitfire recoveries? PeterA

Hmm, thats not the one that Monty had, his one had the early British built turret cut out. There is a photo earlier on in this thread, the turret sits in a lower position with a step up to the rear fuselage..
Sorry no photos of the Spifire recoveries, they were from down the Trobriand, Goodenough, Kiriwana Islands, I was only helping at Tadji. I was in the Air Force at the time and there was a limit as to how much time off I could get unfortunately.

Didn't Momty's Beaufort end up at Toowoomba?
I am thinking about 10-12 years ago.

Well I've arranged for the computer and scanner to have a check 1 servicing on Tuesday so hopefully then I can get back to some scanning, after the slides there are some 5000 + negatives to go through. Just to keep you all going until next week here are 3 slides scanned before it went u/s. They aren't the best but it's all I have available just now Taken in New Caledonia in 1974 I'll start with another dead aeroplane (now theres a suprise!) at Magenta Airfield. scan0009 by Neville Mines, on Flickr The next two are a bit dodgy and none too sharp and were taken at the Bastille Day military parade and flypast at Anse Vata beachfront, Noumea. 2 C 47s and a C 54 and finally a P2H Neptune which took over from the Lancasters That'll be all until the middle of the week (I hope!!)

"Are you in there somewhere 14liney?"
No, not that particular parade. I shot that 8mm film footage that I gave you on a DVD that has a couple of minutes of the same parade. The VIP was Dean Rusk US Secretary of State. Great photos. Can I copy them?

All the 14 sqaudron guys must have skived off that parade! Good excuse that "getting the aircraft ready for the flypast"!
I'll email the photos to you (as I will with the slides as I scan them)

Got my scanner back yesterday and only have one more problem to sort out, plus learning my way around the system so if some of the scans are less than perfect you'll have to bear with me until I get the hang of it. Starting with everybodies favourite, some shots taken in mid 1967 while I was on my basic engineering course at 1 TTS First up is NZ 4115 "Q" scan0021 by Neville Mines, on Flickr Next is NZ 4113 "M" NZ 4113b by Neville Mines, on Flickr and "M" again NZ 4113c by Neville Mines, on Flickr

Faded slides Dave! A month or so later this is how NZ 4113 looked and the two that were over on the perimeter, NZ 4105 "A" and NZ 4120 "Z" Sundy2 by Neville Mines, on Flickr and now two rather dodgy dark slides but I've included them for the sake of completeness NZ 4112 "L" and a row of engines ready for shipment to Australia. Sundy3 by Neville Mines, on Flickr Sundy4 by Neville Mines, on Flickr Luckily for you all the rest of the shots are of better quality.

OK here we go with some Vampire shots, starting with a young AC Shorty standing in front of NZ 5734 at I TTS in mid 1967 NZ 5734 1967 by Neville Mines, on Flickr and now a side on shot of NZ 5734 with unusual markings after the aircraft finishing trainees have had a go at it. Most unusual in having both a NZ and a INST prefix. Also notice that the nose wheel is turned around as the towbar has been pushed around under the aircraft. NZ 5734 1TTS by Neville Mines, on Flickrand we follow that with a standard formation photo. scan0029 by Neville Mines, on Flickr

Sometime ago I mentioned a firepower demo at Waiouru with a Hueycobra, UH-1s, Vampire and Canberra, well here is the Vampire doing it's thing. scan0030 by Neville Mines, on Flickr The next shots are the 4TTS Vampires outside the end of 5 hangar taken in early 68. I had climbed up on the old piston engine test house (it was unused at the time, later became the NDT Section, don't know if it's still there or what it's used for now) At the end of both airframe and engines courses we did the servicing segment at 5 hangar where most of the INST airframes were kept scan0075 by Neville Mines, on Flickr scan0032 by Neville Mines, on Flickr
