Even Ycato may have ducked for cover out of the way of 31 tons of 110mph aircraft...
Strong suspension on that undercarriage! One bounce and then the runway proper...

It seems like it was on October 16 this year - 2012. There is another more interesting YouTube clip of it :
Transall C-160 early landing with bounce...

No investigation? Just because it's the aircraft's last flight doesn't mean the crew are retiring too (though they might already be retired- see below).
Would also point out I've seen similar footage of other 'last flight to a museum' landings, which would point to shared issues. Possibly minimally current crew, unfamiliar and/or below normal length runway etc. If you are delivering an aircraft under these circumstances do some research and some paractice (and look at YouTube for how not to do it).

I was on a BA flight from Paris to London Hethrow not that long ago, and the announcement from up front came with the usual "welcome on board..etc" followed by "and this leg will be flown by our First Officer today Barbara...."
We arrived at London and did a complete left-hand orbit, then another, and finally straightend up for our approach when from somewhere down the back came a loud voice: " Barbara's probably looking for a park"

Ha ha ha, these female pilot jokes are really 'funny'. While we're at it, let's up the ante and ask how many females were on the flightdeck of TE901 or the Huey that plowed into a hillside near Wellington?

In the news item detail, it recorded two circuits before the landing...
"After circling the airfield twice the aircraft came down."

Indeed, well said Craig. I have just read the latest remarks and as has been said on the forum in the past, sexist jokes and comments are not welcome nor needed, as they are pointless and wrong. We have, or used to have, numerous female members who are equally as good as any of our male members, especially those who fly for a living.
I am however confused, which Spitfire is TE901?

We have, or used to have, numerous female members who are equally as good as any of our male members, especially those who fly for a living. I am however confused, which Spitfire is TE901? As Lumpy pointed out, I was referring to TE901. My 'joke' was in appalling taste, and I apologise for offending anyone. I was really disappointed with a few of the comments made previously all because of the pilot's gender. I admire many female pilots because of how much harder many of them have had to work to get to where they are, often enduring nasty barbs and/or obstacules placed in their way from males who have felt somehow threatened. Anyway, back to the story - bloody luck things didn't turn out a lot worse in this incident. It's lucky trash haulers tend to have tough landing gear.

Personally I don't buy into the women are 'disadvantaged' story when it comes to aviation in NZ. I haven't seen many examples of women having barbs and obstacles in their career paths. In many ways it is just as difficult for males to get to where they want to be when it comes to decent flying jobs in this country. Selection processes and experience should ensure that the pilots of any organisation are the best people for the job, simple as that. Gender, race or other aspects should not come into it, and it annoys me that it comes up as it did here.
As for the C160 video, pretty scary times for those photographers, I'd bet they had some laundry to do after that experience.

One must wonder how well the elevated road running cross this field was marked on official landing guides, as from the sun angle it is probable that the road would not necessarilly stand out very strongly from the rest of field, when viewed from the cockpit. Also poor arrangements (or execution thereof) for security monitoring access to this rather ridiculous road (which presumably must have served some useful function) seems not to have helped this situation. That was definitiely a good strong undercarriage in action, although given that the aircraft would have been flying fairly "light", the outcome should perhaps not be so surprising. However if the angle of slope on the approach side of that road were much steeper, there might well have been some much loader noises recorded on the video. David D

The pilot complained of inability to see the end of the runway - if she was on a long final, then that could well be true as the elevated road embankment likely would have masked the view for a short landing. Public comments indicated the plane went around twice before landing.
