Apparently the Mosquito was up in Whangarei over the weekend. Anyone know whether it was an official display or just a casual visit?
My sister has a place at Mangawhai Heads and when she described to me an aircraft that flew overhead going North, I realised that it could only have been KA114.
Then there was a posting on the Avspecs Facebook page to say it was in Whangarei, but no further details about why.
My sister also said that a silver single engined machine accompanied it... Possibly the P-51?
Anyone got the good oil?

Oh dear, how bad the withdrawal symptoms will be when the Mossie goes to America. It'll be like a death in the family! The coverage achieved in the UK, indeed, the world, from this restoration is amazing. The December Flypast has an excellent article.

Seriously though, we have been so fortunate to have the aircraft displayed so much and flown around as it has been. I thanked Jerry in person at Don's place for letting it fly here, but I feel the need to thank him again for the extra three months!

Thanks for the info on the Whangarei visit.
Regarding KA114 leaving our shores, I, on the other hand, am happy that more Mozzie fans in North America will get to see it in real life. I have my memories and photos and videos to enjoy for the future. The only thing that would make me happier would be if it did a display tour of the UK.

Who pays for the flying time, the pilot's time, accommodation etc? I guess each flight has to be sponsored fully and covered for insurance etc. and approved by Jerry before it can go anywhere.

It was a great sight watching the Mosquito and Trojan flying over the Warkworth Golf course on Saturday. Great sound too. Will remember that for a long time.

I have heard from a usually reliable source that the Hunter requires $20,000-00 an hour ,which might explain why it doesn't fly that often.
