I purchased my Gold Pass from Mandy Deans today.
So I guess that means I'll have to attend Warbirds Over Wanaka 2014. ;D

Maybe we could make Ando a whangai (adopted) Māori & then he wouldn't have to take out dual ctizenship. He'd be tangata whenua then. I have the perfect iwi (tribe Ando) in mind. Ngāti Te Tauaarangi O Aotearoa. ;D ;D

Event to follow WarbirdsBy JESSICA MADDOCK - The Southland Times | 1:14PM - Thursday, 14 February 2013A YET-TO-BE-ANNOUNCED "special event" will follow Warbirds Over Wanaka at Easter next year.
Tickets for the 14th biennial international airshow, from Friday, April 18th, to Sunday, April 20th, 2014, go on sale on Monday.
Event manager Mandy Deans said there would be some new types of tickets next year, including a family pass, benefits for people who pre-booked, and the option of buyers printing their own tickets, along with the early-bird Friday silver pass.
Spectators were also encouraged to remain in Wanaka for a special event on Easter Monday, April 21st.
About 50,000 people attended the last airshow in 2012 and there was already great interest in next year's event, she said.www.stuff.co.nz/southland-times/news/8303295/Event-to-follow-Warbirds

Wow, an announcement that there is going to be an announcement?
It is interesting to see they got 50,000 people through the gates last year, a few years ago they were claiming up to 120,000 attendees so it's well down on the golden days there.

Wow, an announcement that there is going to be an announcement? For my part I'm genuinely interested in news about the upcoming announcement, it makes me wonder if the new event will be a car show or something similar to attract/retain people who aren't necessarily airshowgoers. It is interesting to see they got 50,000 people through the gates last year, a few years ago they were claiming up to 120,000 attendees so it's well down on the golden days there. Agreed. It's seemed to me to have the same feel on the ground each year I've attended and it's more of academic interest than anything else to learn the numbers.

Well personally I cannot see any point in making a press release that tells the public nothing.

Perhaps they are going to start up the Race To The Sky again at Cardrona on Easter Monday? That was great when they first held it....that is until they changed the main day of racing from Easter Monday to Easter Sunday and clashed with Warbirds Over Wanaka.
I can remember the year the Mk.XVI Spitfire was displayed over the Race To The Sky (was it Tom Middleton who displayed it?).

Nope, not just a hillclimb.
More like a HUGE mountain climb with drops of thousands of feet over the edge towards the top. More like the famous Pike's Peak mountain climb in Colorado. Like rallying on steroids x10, but with all sorts of weird and wonderful specialist hill-climbing racing cars, as well as highly souped up 4WD farm bikes and many other classes of machines. If you've never been there to experience it, you would find it hard to imagine just how extreme that event was.

My bro in law has raced it, he was also Possum's mechanic and has his race WRX that he still drives at events.
Without letting the cat out, I spoke with Mandy last week while in Wanaka and she described a positive and unique initiative for the Monday after and it is completely aviation oriented.
