I went to see this the other day. The flying portion of the film takes no more than 10 minutes of screentime so don't go expecting an aviation disaster film. While the thought of managing to fly an airliner inverted seems far fetched, it has been done on several occasions ( Tex Johnson in the B367-80, and the Fed Ex DC10 Hijacking spring to mind). But for me, the biggest disappointment aviation wise was the way they broke the laws of physics on several occasions. The first one was the fact that once they righted the aircraft it didn't nose dive immediately (having a frozen elevator) and the second was that the plane didn't travel as far as it would have after striking the ground at that attitude and airspeed despite breaking up. There are other areas where knowledgeable belief was stretched a little but it could be argued that it was poor editing rather than bad technical advice that caused the problem. But while there was a large chunk of dramatic license taken with aviation and the industry in general, I felt it was a reasonable movie in its own right. If you are interested in going please be aware that it is rated R for nudity, drug use and adult themes.

First of all, this is Hollywood, , where rolling an aircraft is standard procedure. Secondly, Denzell Washington is one of the very few actors, at the top of his game IMHO, who could convince an audience that he had done just that. He is a consummate actor, the Sydney Poitier of his day, and brilliant in anything he does.
In the end, it is Hollywood, and therefore not real!

Yes, Denzel is an excellent actor, I have never seen him in anything I didn't like. Same with John Goodman who's also in this film. I would like to eventually see this movie. It looks pretty good.
Denzel is also a really likeable guy in real life from what i have seen on his many Late Show appearances, and right now as I type on Graham Norton's show too. I'd have him over for a beer, him, Stephen Speilberg and Tom Hanks. That's about it from Hollywood who'd get an invite.

THAT would make for one heck of a podcast!
I doubt I'll go see it but when it pops up on TV I'll watch.

Is amazing also to see someone "smoking" in a movie these days, thought that had been pretty much banned!

John Goodman literally steals this movie from high powered actors like Denzel Washington and Don Cheadle. He only has a few scenes but it gives the movie a kick in the pants just when you thought it was starting to get a bit stale.
