About 10-15 years ago I read about a military development of the Cresco in Air International. I can not remember the name of the aircraft but it could carry armament for use as a COIN-aircraft.
Does anyone know anything about this aircraft - name, technical specifications and armament? Did PAC make any prototype? Any photos or drawings would be much appreciated.
Cheers Peter

in the early 1990s (?) PAC did a quick mock up using Bernie Haskell's Taupo based ZK-JAD "Kermit". basically it involved hanging a couple of dummy rocket pods under the wings. NZ wings did a profile on Bernie at one stage which had a photo of him posing in front of the aircraft at Hamilton wearing "Rambo style" camo gear and weilding an Armalite rifle!

Sounds like a low-budget project. Maybe a way to test the market before to much money was spent.

Military considerations were given to the aircraft long before 1990 too. I have seen drawings at Pat Monk's house (Cresco designer) of a military version, and he left PAC Ltd. in about 1980. I think it was a Cresco, if not it was a turbo powered Fletcher. They tried to market it to South American countries, I'm not sure if any sold. It was marketed by an American agent under a different name from memory. This page has info on it and other derivatives, and gives the history of how the Fletcher was first designed for that role www.geocities.com/usarmyaviationdigest/FD25.htm
