I have been looking around for a point and shoot for sometime and noted the release of a new type of camera that fits between a point and shoot and the DSLR. Both Canon and Nikon have models available however they seem to want to sell them for more than a kit DSLR so I waited a while and kept an eye on Trademe. Some new updated models have come out and the old stock was advertised on Trademe so I made a bid and was successful and am now the owner of a Nikon 1 J1 kit. It comes with camera body and two lenses. A 10-30mm and a 30-110mm which if you multiply by 2.7 gives you there equivalent 35mm focal lengths. Basically they are mirrorless DSLR's and are very light to carry. Very fast response and have many automated features. My old DSLR does not do video so that was the attraction and because it is small and light I can use a gorrilapod I have to mount it on many fixtures to give a firm base to video from. I have used it fixed to a hand rail to video a number of cruise liners leaving Auckland and today I took this video of the A380 arriving on 05R from Sydney and it was just hand held: On left is my DSLR on the right is the Nikon 1 J1 Camera review here: www.dpreview.com/reviews/nikonv1j1Quite pleased with the results and thought I should share it with forum members. It does have limitations but so far it has worked very well. Cheers, Colin
