Air display from Red CheckersPosted at 9:48am Saturday 06th Apr, 2013 An aerobatic display will see the Red Checkers take to Tauranga skies on Tuesday to showcase the team’s flying skills. The Royal New Zealand Air Force’s (RNZAF) formation aerobatics team will be making its way around the North Island performing aerobatic displays. The Red Checkers will be flying high on Tuesday, weather permitting. It will be performing a formation flying display around the Tauranga waterfront at 5.30pm, weather permitting. The team is made up of senior instructors from the RNZAF’s Central Flying School and Pilot Training Squadron. A spokesperson for the team says all of the members of the Red Checkers are experienced operational pilots, and the displays are performed to exacting safety standards. “They fly the highly manoeuvrable New Zealand built CT-4E Airtrainer and perform a wide range of formation and solo aerobatics. “The team’s history can be traced back to the late 1940s in Wigram, and we have been flying under the Red Checkers name since 1967.” The Red Checkers will give the public a chance to see military flying skills during its formation flying. www.sunlive.co.nz/news/41535-air-display-from-red-checkers.html
