last year when the Cambridge steam railway line was opened there was a steam pinnace, the type of boat that was used to tow lighters from troopships in WWI including at Gallipoli (and of course for many other purposes in the maritime industry). My friend was told there were perhaps ten or a dozen of these all operating around Auckland, and they have a club.
The example that visited Cambridge was a beautifully crafted boat and I would really love to see one in action on the water (this one was on a trailer).
Does anyone here happen to be in contact with the steam pinnace club or any owners? How can I contact them please?
