My faithfull old HP photo printer finally died last night. RIP
So I spent an hour or two or the internet to suss out a replacement. Found a model who's specs added up.
Interesting price range: JB HiFi - home of the headbangers - $117 Dick Smith - Where Dick Does Deals - $139 The Warehouse - Where Everyone Gets a Bargain - $169!

Just had the same experience buying a pair of speakers . Most places were around the $250 dollar mark , but Noel Leemings were $189 . Sure they were on special , but still a good saving for a small amount of internet browsing .

Usually NL will honour a JB HiFi Special if at exactly the same Model - well they do here in Tokoroa and we do not have a JBHF in town. Have to be able to show it on the JBHF website.

Anything to do with computers or connected to them it is always worth a look at PB Technologies. They have a few stores around the country now and online sales. www.pbtech.co.nzCheers

PB list the printer I wanted on their website at $159.85
To complete the story, M was in a desperate hurry to get some printing done for one of her students, so rolled up to JB at Albany. They had none in their store, just one on the showroom shelf for which they could not find the cables.
Rather than drive - in the pouring rain - over to their St Lukes store, I bought from Dick Smiths, just up the road. Would probably have cost me $22 in time, car costs and stress anyway.
To complete the story, the days when you just plugged your new printer into a usb port are gone - now it connects to the internet to sing and dance all by itself.
All up and running now.

Well done Peter! As you say it pays to shop around for the best deal. Internet is so handy for saving petrol too. Cheers

A good result! It was a bit like the new TV - wanted to talk with my WiFi then spent an hour updating itself before we could watch anything!!

Interesting reading this as I have today spoken to the manager of a big courier firm who said 10 years ago there primary business was business to business work...whereas today its all private people buying off the internet.....and having a talk a work today its amazing how many are buying online and from overseas...and all sorts of stuff.

Only catch my wife watching old full length, full screen movies on YouTube mainly... and following some exercise classes... Then its the Living Channel and sometimes the soapies... and news!

With most technology equipment - including printers - you can cheat and go to www.pricespy.co.nz which neatly summarises that price for that item across most retailers in the country for any tech product. I tend to stick with the reputable dealers though rather than the absolute cheapest! - pretty easy just to pick out the big-name stores from the list

Always ask for a discount on cash sales too, it is amazing how far a retailer can bend when you have cash.

I regularly use PriceSpy, and I have (on an number of occasions) used the cheapest price on PriceSpy bypassing the "reputable" dealers and I have yet to have any issues! Just be careful to factor in the shipping. I also check TradeMe... can be even cheaper, and often new. It all comes down to how much extra you want to pay for a guarantee.

I purchase a lot of stuff from Expert InfoTech at Hillcrest on Auckland's North Shore.
Although they are occasionally beaten on price, as a general rule they are right down near the bottom of the price scale for most things.
Most stuff I order from them, it turns up via courier the following day.
And if I've been in Auckland and turned up at their store (in Sunnybrae Road) to pick up my purchase, I've found that if I offer cash, they usually drop the price even further.
