Our glorious Defence Minister has decreed that we shall once more visit the Red Sea and scare pirates. Later this year Te Mana is deploy for three months (starting November) after working up in Australia. Secondly in 2014 a P3K2 will deploy for three months. Finally a team of officers will deploy and command the Combined Naval Task Force. www.beehive.govt.nz/release/new-zealand-continue-supporting-anti-piracy-patrols

As Sea Shepherd practices piracy then the Navy can blow them out of the water.
I find it so ironic after Pete Buffoon was released from the Japanese prison where he was held for his piracy actions, he then set up an anti-pirate private company. They must have great brainwashing techniques in that prison.

Nah send a Orion down its less offensive compared to a Naval ship plus it can take photos and write up a infringement notice to sea Shepherd. Back to the Horn of Africa if there has not been any recent Hijackings that means the Maritime Task Force is doing there job . Its good news NZ is pulling its weight and protecting the sea lanes which is Critical for NZ's trade.

Me to. Am sure that a RNZN FFH has been chasing pirates off Somalia before.

I saw the firgate leaving on the news last night. The RNZAF guys looked so much smarter than the Navy lined up on deck in their No. 1 SD's. The Navy were just in casual looking black sailor suits with bell bottoms and Dixie Cup hats. Is that their form of SD's?

The Navy were just in casual looking black sailor suits with bell bottoms and Dixie Cup hats. Is that their form of SD's? If the RNZAF were in their No 1 SDs then they were not in the rig of the day. No 1 SDs is Mess Dress. The RNZN No 1 & 2 Dress is much niftier and spifier than the RNZAF uniform and I have worn both, although the pussers suit is more difficult to get into and look after. The Skipper sets the rig for leaving port in this case and if he said it was No 1s then it is the full ceremonial rig with swords, cutlasses & medals. That is only worn on special occasions. The rig on Te Mana for leaving port looks like No 2s and that is far better looking than RNZAF No 3 SDs. Like MEO says, the sailors uniform has a lot of history and tradition involved in it which is very much lacking in RNZAF uniforms. The sailors, or pussers suit, is a link back to the history of the RN; back to the old salts like Nelson and Cook and beyond. The silks, the pudding, the lanyard, the jean collar, they all have a story. The Navy has very many traditions. Also the pussers suit is a "chick magnet". Something to do with the reputation of sailors.
