There is a new flight sim combat game out which I'm exploring. It is free at moment as is still in beta. The download is about 5.0 GB and I'm slowly crunching my way through it. It appears to have a Pacific as well as European theatre of Ops. It seems to be WW2 and maybe Korea. This is the link warthunder.com/

Currently flying a Hurricane Mark 1 and getting shot down a lot. Currently on Arcade at present as it seems to take a while to load onto the historical maps. Racked up about 14 kills and accidently shot down a "Blue" team member. Only realised when I replayed the mission and I could see myself blasting away at a red team aircraft when he rolled away and a blue team guy (who may have already been damaged) popped right up in front. Well I couldn't help myself and he went down in flames...........ooops.

Just had a go at the Historical Battles and found myself in my little old Mark 1 Hurricane at the Battle of the Bulge in 1944....lasted about 5 minutes and got shot down! Here are some screenshots while I looked at what the other guys were up too. A few had B17E Flying Fortress and did a good job at flying in formation. They then bombed the target. He's not banking while bombing as with the mosue you can move around the aircraft you are locked onto in spectator mode. However after this a Me410 came along and shot down a couple of them. And you can bail out in this game too! This MK 1B Typhoon was mixing it at low level with a 109 I watched this P40E Kittyhawk also try to get a He112 fighter (yep lots of different types in this game) But he got shot down. Here are a few views from the cockpit, pretty detailed although I tend to remove this view so I can see more. I'm trying to take out this Ju87 Stuka and you can see the tracer fire from my guns abover the crosshairs. I then tried to shoot down a Wellington (he was on the other side........must be a captured one eh?) and his rear gunner shot me down. Not cricket old boy!

I've been playing the competitor to Warthunder called World of Warplanes. Done by the same Russian studio that does World of Tanks, World of Warplanes eschews realism for the quick skirmish type battles. More arcade game than sim, I nevertheless enjoy the fast paced action, sometimes so much so hours go past without me realizing it. The era's of fighter aircraft range from late 20's/early 30's biplane designs up to early 1950's era jets (around the time of the maturing of guided missilery). The era's are kept apart by a matching system that is constantly being worked on so that you won't fight something too advanced.
You can get a good idea about the contrasting styles from the video below, but I think the guy who made it is a World of Warplanes fan:

It's not quite as good as the cinematic Dave, but nearly. A friend put together this sequence (from real-time in game footage, and from replay footage that you can access afterwards) The in cockpit shots gives you a pretty good idea of what the game feels like in it's hardest mode. The Rachmaninoff was added by him in post. I'm constantly staggered by he attention to detail in the game. If you notice, the cockpit has fully functioning gauges, and is 3 dimensional so that shadows fall how they would in a real cockpit.

Very nice work on that video. I usually play the arcade version as it seem to take forever to connect to a map in anything else. Whereabouts are you aotea? Maybe I need a faster connection. Do like the realism though.
