I have just read of the sad death of Fred Panton, one of the brothers who owned and has been restoring the Avro Lancaster "Just Jane" back to flight in the UK. Very sad, from all I have read and heard he was a terrificly dedicated man towards preservation, education and remembrance. He'll be missed deeply I'm sure. My thoughts are with his brother Harold and the rest of their family, and the team at East Kirkby in Lincolnshire. RIP

That's very sad to read. With all the activity building toward returning Just Jane to flight, one can't help feeling he has been robbed. On the other hand, what a wonderful journey he and his brother have been part of. As a family, the brothers have certainly earned a placed in the military aircraft aviation Hall of Fame.

Absolutely, and let's not forget it's not just the Lancaster, they have saved that airfield and it's now a wonderful attraction with lots of other aircraft based there too.

Yep. When I did my big 50th trip to the UK, my mate paid the approx 7-800 dollar equivalent, to go through the whole Just Jane experience. A whole day including briefings, walk around, and then on board for the taxi run. Bucket list stuff. I believe there are a new generation of the family passionately involved now too. So that's fantastic eh?
