Another beat up by the Herald. Jeez wonder what they would've reckoned about the run ashores and other things that we when I was both services. Drunk navy officers investigatedDuo alleged to have damaged naval property, with one believed to have slept with a rating. Naval officers drunkenly damaged property and one allegedly acted inappropriately with a rating at the Devonport base after a night out drinking. The Herald understands the pair went out two weekends ago and returned to the base drunk. They damaged property at the training school and one slept with a rating. Full story here. As one of the boys said on the ex pussers FB page the Herald haven't said what the sleeping arrangement was. MM MF FF. Bit slack of them.

This time somewhat more serious. A senior naval officer is to face a courts martial regarding allegations of an affair with a subordinate and breaching security protocols. Cdre Keats Courts Martial will occur at atime yet to be specified. He is also accused of threatening the service career of the womans child. Defence Force commander charged You'd think that having reached flag rank that he'd know better, be careful and be protective of his career. Something like this will deep six his career. However the services are a microcosm of NZ society so they get all sorts many good & very good, but unfortunately some not so. Having said that he has not had his courts martial yet and is innocent unless the courts martial find otherwise. So our esteemed Minister has decided that the Ministry of Defence shall conduct an enquiry into whether or not gender discrimination is happening in NZDF and if so to what level. he does not want scandals like the ADF are and have been having.

Whatever the outcome of the Court Martial, his career is over. Personally, if what has been reported is true, then I personally find such behaviour from a senior officer to be totally abhorrent!

I forgot to mention that he ommited to mention the affair on his security clearance forms which is I understand an offence. I also am in total agreement with Phil82.

I see Larissa Turner on TV3 wanting to meet the Minister of Defence over gender discrimination. She didn't want to appear on camera but she seems to have a real grudge against R.Adm Jack Steer, CN, who went though the Courts Martial proceedure 18 years ago and found not guilty. Turner apparently received some money from NZDF as compensation and the culture within RNZN and NZDF has changed since then for the better. However people who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones and ms Turner should remember some of her shipmates (female) apparently have long memories.
