Home sweet home for loyal US soldier Pursuing a military career runs in the Gent family. Soldier Royce Gent, 19, returned home from the US Army to spend his leave with his father Richard Gent and step mum Darlene Lang. Royce, who has just completed a nine-month tour of duty in Afghanistan, was only 18 when he was deployed with the US 7th Cavalry as a scout. Royce's father Richard served with the New Zealand Army as did his great-grandfather Ernest Gent with brothers Jack, Alan and Jim during World War II. His great-great-grandfather George Gent served with the Canadian Army during World War I. It is not just the men who are keen to suit up. Royce's sister Alice Gent is a Corporal based in Whenuapai with the New Zealand Air Force and has just returned from training overseas. While Richard and Darlene are extremely proud of their family's military history they were both excited and relieved to have Royce home safe. After a well-deserved rest in Dargaville, Royce has returned to Fort Stewart, Georgia where he will be based until his next deployment. www.stuff.co.nz/auckland/local-news/northland/dargaville-districts/8951936/Home-sweet-home-for-loyal-US-soldier
