Defence Force seeking more to join SAS The Defence Force is again recruiting for civilians to join its elite special forces unit - the Special Air Services. An advertisement on the job-hunters' website SEEK outlines the benefits of joining the SAS, including a competitive salary and the potential for overseas travel. Traditionally, only military personnel from within the Defence Force have been able to join the SAS, but since 2011 civilians have been able to apply. David Moloney, a former commander of the SAS in the early 1970s, believes civilians can make it through selection. Mr Moloney says all sorts of people join the SAS - but the most important thing is for members to use their brains, rather than relying on brawn. www.radionz.co.nz/news/national/216898/defence-force-seeking-more-to-join-saswww.seek.co.nz/job/24925111

So are these new recruits to maintain the current levels or are they expanding? Another interesting thing is that the govt is looking at delaying Defence cuts because they are jeapordising operational requirements. We could have told them that back in 2010.
