A 19 yr old in the US was killed flying his RC helicopter.
Sad. There is a link to one his Youtube vids on the Stuff story above.

Always knew there was a reason I hated people doing "3D" flying with helicopter models.
Pity they have to keep referring to it as a "toy" helicopter,a toy is something you push along the ground or run around with it in your hand making Brrm, brrm noises.

I'd have thought this was more like a toy helicopter?

That would make a nice boat for the forum fishing trips Dave. We'd just have to win the lotto a few times. Yes Shorty I agree with you. The RC helicopters pose the same dangers to bystanders as the real ones. Unfortunately this fulla found out the really hard way.

To put a little perspective on this for those that havent seen larger RC helicopters , the rotor blades spin at virtually the same speed as the blades on your lawn mower ( a little over 3000 RPM ) .They are quite strong - often carbon fibre , and have a reasonably fine leading ( cutting ) edge . Check your lawn mower , its blades probably look blunt( unless they are new ), but they still cut pretty good at that speed . I confess , I have cut the top off the aerial of my transmiter with my RC heli when a gust of wind pushed it back toward me , Its smaller than the one here ( 450 size - for those that know what that is ) ,but it still cut the aerial clean off ! Lesson learnt !
