Dave I think the S&S guy was Thompson.....? It was a long time ago now. I want to say Mark Thompson but that's a bit of a guess.

The TV3 story the other night about Cadet 150 said up to 20% go on to join the armed Forces (not just the RNZAF).

I did know an S&S Corporal on No. 40 Squadron in 1990-91 called Mark Thompson, maybe it was him?

Air Scouts is the aviation equivalent of Sea Scouts, both are do standard scouting stuff and in addition do either aviation or nautical activities. Sea Scouts were probably luckier as ut is much cheaper to learn to sail than it is to learn to fly! I recall that Sea Scouts used to wear sailor caps with "Sea Scouts" on the tally band and Air Scouts wore black berets instead of green.
I was in the ATC in the early sixties and cadets from our squadron at the time went on to be CO 5 Sqn, Canberra Navigators, Vampire/Canberra pilots, Harvard owners and a lot of us joined the mob as ground crew
