I was wondering what the status is with this aircraft? It was supposed to be close to making it to Classic Fighters but have heard nothing since - has it flown yet - is it to be based at Omaka?

It is on hold. It may be another 6 months to a year yet. Listen to the latest Wings Over New Zealand Show for an update from Warren Denholm (Episode 50 - The Ardmore Special).
Yes when completed it will go to Omaka as it's new home.

Come on chaps, it is not anyone's place to discuss or comment on the financial arrangements or situations of aircraft owners here on the forum.

On a related note; work is progressing on the Fokker D.VIII replica at Omaka. The aircraft was stripped right back to a bare frame, and modifications done to convert it to an E.V. It is now at the stage where bits are being added, rather than removed.

With Classic Fighters and NH799's spectacular second Kiwi debut behind us, I thought this thread should be resurrected for discussion on NZ's newest Spitfire restoration. I never really thought much further about its colour scheme, I figured when it showed up on Good Friday it was externally finished. Of course, only now I think about the fact it would be tricky to add squadron marks, serials etc to an aircraft being actively worked on to fly before a set deadline! While researching a suitable model kit to buy and build as NH799 in one of its "warbird" guises - I'm still undecided as to her new look or the old one as AP-V - I found this one (downloaded and saved without noting who did it, sorry): I'd only ever seen high-backed Spits in SEAC markings so it was a surprise to see NH799 finished thusly, but it seems there is a precedent. Perhaps this may be the final scheme? There's a photo taken last week at Ardmore which shows some tape just aft of the roundel: nzcivair.blogspot.co.nz/2015/04/up-north.html

I'm still undecided as to her new look or the old one as AP-V The old scheme was ugly in my opinion, however the current SEAC scheme looks so much better in my opinion. I used to think '799 was the ugly duckling of the flying warbirds in NZ but not any more. The old scheme was meant to be depicting a No. 130 Squadron RAF Spitfire Mk. XIVe - which the squadron equipped with at Tangmere in August 1944. However I believe is was inaccurate as apparently that squadron did not fly the low-back variants, only high-backs. And the D-Day stripes came up far too high on the fuselage when you look at the photos of that squadron's aircraft which wore the stripes on their XIVe's only underneath. So it just did not look right.

I had been wondering if the lack of white stripes on the tail control surfaces was a feature of the scheme, or an artifact of the incomplete paint job.
